Painted Bike Lanes

For the Windsor Street segment, maintaining the existing painted bike lanes and sidewalk and adding bicycle crossings at Welsford St and the St. Pat’s MUP is proposed. Planning for the addition of separated bicycle lanes for the full length of Windsor Street will require considering changes to the street that are beyond the scope of the Midtown AAA project such as changes to traffic flow or road narrowing beyond what is typically considered.

The project team has extensively explored options to accommodate AAA facilities, but the potential to add separated bicycle infrastructure is limited due to several factors, including:

• The right-of-way along Windsor Street is narrower than is typical for a major collector street that is also designated a daytime truck route
• There is no suitable location to relocate six Nova Scotia Power utility poles. Removing the poles and relocating the infrastructure underground would be extremely challenging and costly, and may not be a feasible option due to the limited space

How to use this interactive map

This activity is one of the ways you can share your feedback about the proposed concepts for new infrastructure in the centre of the Halifax Peninsula that will better support people walking, rolling, and cycling.

It may be helpful to learn more about the project before participating on the interactive map. You can read the summary of previous public engagement sessions and review the responses to frequently asked questions here.

• What changes or additions would you suggest for this concept?

Navigate the map

Zoom in to see the map up close: scroll using your mouse/trackpad or use the arrows at the top right corner of the map. Click and drag the map to pan to different locations.

Click on the Info Markers to see descriptions of the concept at that location.

Click on the Tree Removal Markers to see where trees would need to be removed to enable a proposed option.

Move between tabs

Click on the tabs above the interactive map to navigate between each of the concepts. There is one concept in each tab.

Make a comment

Click the "Add Marker" button at the bottom of the map and drag one of the marker types to a spot that you would like to comment about.
